  • "We Are All Makers" Bright Ideas Grant
    We are excited to announce that the WJMS Media Center has been awarded a Bright Ideas grant this year.  The grant is sponsored by Rutherford Electric Membership Corporation and gives us $1000 to purchase new books that are focused on topics related to making and creating.  Examples of topics that could be included are varied:  learning to code, build robotics, upcycling old and unwanted things into new creations, origami, how to build webpages, scrapbooking, etc.  The world of making is limited only by our own creativity!  You can make topic recommendations by clicking here.   Additionally, if you would like to be considered for a student focus group that will get to help determine the final list of titles purchased, please note that on your Google form submission by including your full name.  Thank you Rutherford Electric for making this opportunity available to us this year!

  • WJMS Music Night at Golden Corral
    Our Music Department will be having a fundraiser at Golden Corral on Thursday evening from 4-8pm.  A portion of all proceeds that night will be donated back to our Choral and Band program.  Be sure to let the cashier know that you are supporting WJMS that night to support these enriching programs.  Thank you!

  • Annual Winter Canned Food Drive

    WJMS Student Council has announced our Fall/Winter Canned Food Drive!  It will begin the week of Oct. 31st and run through Dec. 16th to benefit our WJMS food pantry and BUCM.  The homeroom with the most items collected will receive a holiday treat on Monday, Dec. 19th from the WJMS Student Council. Thank you for your support and helping us serve our community!

  • Souperintendent’s Souperbowl Canned-Food Drive
    Walter Johnson Middle School is proud to participate in the fourth annual Souperintendent’s Souperbowl Canned-Food Drive Jan. 9th through Feb. 6th. The county-wide donations will be distributed to four different local charities:  Burke United Christian Ministries, East Burke Christian Ministries, Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church in Rutherford College and the East Burke High School food pantry.

  • You Are Invited To An Evening Of Music!
    The WJMS Band and Chorus will be putting on a festive concert on Tuesday, December 13th, and everyone is invited!  The Band will take the stage at 6:30 to begin the evening, and the Chorus concert will follow at 7:30.  Admission to the concert is free, but donations will be appreciated.  All proceeds will be used to support the Band and Chorus program and to purchase new music.  Please come out and show your support for our fantastic students and directors!

  • Join Us in Supporting Those Fighting the Wildfires
    Mr. Lowman is spearheading collection efforts to support our firefighters as they fight the devastating wildfires that are currently raging in South Mountain State Park.  Drop off any donations in the school office by Wednesday, November 16th, and he will deliver them.  Any of the following items would be helpful to the firemen, forest service workers, law enforcement and other volunteers that are working:  
    • bottled water & protein water
    • gallon jugs of water
    • Gatorade (powder or liquid)
    • beef jerky, granola bars, crackers, snack bars or other portable food items
    • batteries for head lamps
    • ChapStick
    • baby wipes
    • eye drops

  • Come visit the Book Fair!
    Our book fair is now here and will be available through Wednesday, the 16th!  Please come see all the great books and items that we have available.  It will be open during parent conference days next Monday (until 7:30pm) and Tuesday (until 11:00am) if you wish to browse with your student.  Each $10 purchase or donation gets an entry into a drawing where you can win a free book or poster, and there will be multiple winners!  A portion of every purchase does help our Media Center, so we thank you for your support!
